Practical Philosophiae was born out of the unnegotiable commitment of relying on Philosophy as a way of making a decisive and transformative difference in your concrete life. It is based on western philosophy – complemented by Eastern philosophical traditions, such as Buddhist, Taoist and Confucionist philosophies – in order to promote the development and realization of your potential. The key objective of Practical Philosophiae is to offer solutions which will support you in achieving higher degrees of self-realization and fulfillment.

Are you free? Do you allow yourself to be who you really are? Or do you feel an obligation and pressure to adapt to what is socially accepted? Feelings such as anxiety, anguish, guilt, fear and shape dominate at certain moments the way you live your life? Do you genuinely acknowledge that you already have an immense potential, which is unique to you? In the book “Agent Particularism: The Ethics of Human Dignity”, I challenge the status quo and offer an original understanding about what it means to be truly ethical and to live your life with dignity.
Heroes and cowards feel exactly the same fear.
Heroes just react to it differently.

Practical Philosophy! What could appear to be a seeming contradiction is the key point, the true meaning of Philosophy. You might be asking yourself, “but then why when I think about Philosophy, I think of something which may be interesting, but is difficult and isn’t helpful to me in my concrete, daily life?”.
The term Philosophy comes from the Greek φιλοσοφία (philosophía), whose etymology means (phílos, ‘love’) + σοφία (sophía, ‘wisdom’). Philosophy is love of wisdom. Yet many professional philosophers focus on issues which have no impact on our practical lives. With this excessively academic approach the deeper and most genuine sense of ‘wisdom’ got lost somewhere along the line. It is no surprise therefore that many people are not able to see clearly the transformative impact which Philosophy can have in their lives.
The most precise sense of ‘wisdom’ is well described by the most valued virtue in ancient Greek society: ‘Practical Wisdom’ (phrónēsis). Having wisdom is not about seating in a chair and reading a whole lot of books (that may provide one with information and knowledge, but not wisdom). Wise is the person that behaves with Practical Wisdom in their daily life. This is a capacity which can be developed.
Practical Wisdom involves having the sensitivity to perceive what each real-life situation requires from you and acting accordingly. It means, for example, being brave when that is what the situation calls for. Behaving with prudence when that is what is required. And most importantly, having the sensitivity to perceive that in real life on most occasions what life will require from you is an appropriate balance between being brave and being prudent. This is a nice picture of a person whose character has been developed with excellence, i.e. a Virtuous person.
Practical Philosophiae was born out of the unnegotiable commitment of relying on Philosophy as a way of making a decisive and transformative difference in your practical life.
The search for uncovering “who am I?” is certainly a life-long exercise. Some facts about me present themselves as relevant to the services offered by Practical Philosophiae.

Most importantly, I am me!
In the book “Agent Particularism: the Ethics of Human Dignity” I propose an understanding about what does it means to: a) being genuinely ethical, and b) living your life with dignity, challenges the traditional (and unhealthy) understanding.
Do you live freely? Genuinely? Or do you rather feel a certain degree of constraint? Do you allow yourself to be who you truly are? Or do you feel an almost constant pressure to fit into what is socially accepted? Do feelings such as anxiety, anguish, guilt, fear and shame determine at times how you live your life? Do you clearly acknowledge that you have a huge potential? Or do you constantly feel insecure about your own capacity? How do you see other people in relation to these same questions? The answer to the above questions indicate whether you are genuinely ethical – if you respect yourself and others, and if you live your life in a dignified way.

In Indian philosophical traditions those who seek the support of the Philosopher through Philosophical Counseling is not seen as a client. They are seen as Seekers. The role of the philosopher is to support and enlighten the process of Seeking.
Seeking what? Seeking themselves. The process through which you will undergo in our Philosophical Counseling sessions can be described as awakening. In it you will awaken some of your deepest and yet currently dormant aspects. Specifically, through this work we will focus on awakening the aspects which, though dormant, make you the unique person that you are. And we will do that by dealing properly with your real-life, daily issues.
Such awakening happens as we recognize, properly value, and bring to the surface your potentialities. As you put your most natural potentialities into practice (whether or not you currently acknowledge them) you will be in the path towards realizing your particular nature: the unique constellation of talents, abilities, style, personality and character, which is the fingerprint of who you really are.
In the Philosophical Counseling sessions, we will make use of the real-life situations which you are going through as a booster for your self-realization. We will ascribe proper value to those aspects of your life which you regard to be the most beneficial and desirable to you. And we will transmute the hardest and most painful aspects of your life into jewels which only you are capable of creating. Self-realization involves at the same time bringing into the practice of your daily life the highest degree of the capacities which you already possess in potential and living a life which brings you true fulfillment.
If we were to see the potential that is already within you as an iceberg, we could say that you are conscious of its tip. That doesn’t mean the potential isn’t there, it just indicates that it is dormant, repressed. That potential, your potential, is eager to and strives for its self-realization. Whether you are conscious of it or not, you are eager to become all that you can be. Things like anxiety, anguish and depression are all signs of that, side effects of the inner pressure that your repressed potential is causing. The work in our Philosophical Counseling will be to not merely “relieve the pressure”. It will be to also acknowledge that such pressure is legitimate, and that it can be a powerful booster to your personal growth and self-realization. The cause of this pressure is poetically presented by the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau: “Everybody uses basically the same mask. But in each person, there is face which is more beautiful than the mask that covers it”.
The thing is that this mask stifles, restrains, suffocates. It suppresses one’s capacity to breathe profoundly and freely. In much the same way one’s potential get repressed. And it makes its presence known and noticed, in a way that a discomfort emerges. Anxiety, anguish, suffering. Those are different names and feelings that relate with the inner pressure that your particular nature, your unique set of potentialities, make as it makes clear the need for it to be expressed. The Philosophical Counseling sessions have been conceived with an explicit focus of aiming beyond relieving the pressure (suffering). Relief, which is an integral part of the process, is just the effect of being able to breathe again. The true objective of the work is to channel that energy in a productive way, allowing you the fulfilment of your deepest aspirations.
Our job is to distinguish those who are merely surviving from those who are truly living. And to make sure you are in the second group.
Those who know how to seek end up finding themselves!

“When you are climbing a mountain, you can give up as many times as you want as long as you keep putting one foot in front of the other”
Philosophical Consulting involves a cycle of Philosophical Counseling sessions tailor-made to equip you to achieve a specific goal, which will be dully welcomed, clarified and addressed. We start with a session which aims at the acknowledgement, understanding and clarifying of your needs. After the initial session I will prepare and send you a proposal for a work-plan, in such a way as to cover the steps necessary to achieving your goal. The proposal is validated with you in such a way as to accommodate what you consider to be most beneficial to your process.
Philosophical Consulting aims at being fast and clean. Even though the exact number of sessions varies according to what the issue is, it is designed to quickly deepen into your specific issue. It is a process with a clearly demarked beginning and ending (about 10 sessions in total). It includes a Personalized Practical Report: a practical and easy-to-use instrument which, based on the work done through the Consulting cycle, aims at providing you with the necessary conditions for you to keep on developing yourself in the desired direction even after the Consulting Cycle is over.
The report is composed of 3 parts:
The Report is presented with a clear objective of giving you access to the capacity to transform your own life in the desired direction in a concrete, practical and consistent way.
Here you have a list of examples of needs that could be fulfilled through Philosophical Consulting:
– Career transition: aims at conceiving a career transition which better reflects your own particular nature;
– Professional Excellency: aims at identifying, acknowledging, valuing and practicing your main potentialities;
– A more Fulfilling life: it aims at: a) identify and eliminate any aspects which might be impoverishing your life; b) the main focus, nonetheless, is in cultivating the aspects which could bring you to a more fulfilling life;
– Dealing with depression: de-pression comes from excessive inner pressure. It comes out of a prolonged process of emotional and psychological “aggressions”. The work here resembles a “shock treatment”. We will identify the causes of the pressure and eliminate them from your life;
– Dealing with anxiety and anguish: the work aims at transforming the way in which you relate with those acute emotional states: transmuting them from ‘enemies’ or problems into an alarm system that indicates aspects of your life that need to be firmly altered. A “side effect” of the work is a relief from the suffering caused by anxiety and anguish;
– Dealing with ethical dilemmas: through supporting you in dealing with your current life circumstances the work aims at developing your capacity to deal with ethical dilemmas in the present and future;
– Cultivating Self-respect: the work aims at clarifying what is involved in you treating yourself with respect, and identifying/eliminating any current attitudes and behaviors which involve a lack of self-respect;
– Seeking genuine freedom: aims at clarifying the different aspects involved in living a genuinely free life, and identifying/addressing external forces (people or situations) and internal forces (emotional states such as fears and insecurities) that currently pest your life;
– Developing Decision-making Excellency: aims at developing your capacity to make excellent decisions through engaging in your real-life decisions (current and/or past). The work does not focus on intentions that never become more than a thought in your head, but rather it focuses on decisions that become concrete in the reality of your life – transforming it in the direction desired by you.
These are just a few examples of the kind of work that can be developed through Philosophical Consulting.
The seeds of your potential already are exceptional. By acknowledging its proper value and cultivating it accordingly we will create the conditions for you to become who you were always meant to be!

“Man conquers the world by conquering himself”
Zeno of Citium
You are a genius. You already are. But much of your potential remain underused and unacknowledged.
There is a fundamental difference between the modern x the eighteenth century’s understanding of the term “genius”. The modern understanding of ‘genius’ refers to a rare and intellectually exceptional individual. Everybody else are “merely” mortals”, with average levels of capacity and potentiality (at best). This understanding is pure ignorance. Up to the eighteenth century the term had a richer and more useful understanding: the genius of a person is the group of talents, abilities, style, personality and character that are constitutive of a person. The unique and precious (because unique) constellation of features that are natural to a person and make them be who they are.
The implication is simple: everybody is a genius. Which brings us to the most relevant fact that you are a genius.
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its capacity to climb trees it will spend its whole life believing it is an idiot”.
– Albert Einstein –
Nonetheless that geniality needs to be awakened. That is the aim of the Philosophy for the Realization of Your Potential. We will: acknowledge and value your potential; identify what is hindering the realization of such potential and remove any obstacles to its flourishing.
The format of the work is designed to extract both the benefits of group-work (the sharing of experiences, the collective creation of solutions, and mutual support) and the benefits of a personalized approach (the development which takes into account and value each person’s particularities, and the practical application of the insights into each participant’s life). The work begins and ends with an individual Philosophical counseling session and is complemented by 8 group meetings.
During our meetings I will present the indispensable foundations for the fulfillment of one’s potential. Based on the real experiences shared by participants those foundations are clarified and absorbed in each one’s particular context. The most potent and relevant philosophical insights are presented during the meetings, in such a way as for them to meet the real-life experiences of each participant. The topics for each of the group meetings were carefully selected in such a way as to secure the transformative power of the work.
The work is complemented by a Plan for the Realization of your Potential (APRP): an action plan applicable in your practical life, with a step-by-step process which will lead you towards fulfilling your potential. The APRP is composed of three parts:
The APRP was designed with a clear objective: if properly implemented it will give you access to the capacity to transform your life in the direction desired by you – in a concrete, practical and consistent way.
“Philosophy for the Realization of Your Potential” focuses in providing you both with the life which you find genuinely fulfilling and the necessary conditions for acknowledging and with awakening the immense potential which already lies within you.
You don’t need to become a better person. You only need to become who you really are!
Do you at times entertain the belief that your potential is much greater than you currently acknowledge? You are right about that! Nevertheless, it is still the case that this potential needs to be harnessed. Work must be done if you are to properly acknowledge, value and express such potential. Because such potential is unique to you there is no guide or manual available. It is indispensable to go through the process of becoming who you really are. The first step is to recognize the greatness of your untapped potential and of your worthiness as a person. In the end, all that is required is that you be bold enough to simply be you.
“Philosophy for the Realization of Your Potential” focuses in providing you both with the life which you find genuinely fulfilling and with the necessary conditions for acknowledging and awakening the immense potential which already lies within you.
“Each child has his unique genius and character. One must not try to change or restrain it but to allow it to perfect itself. Education, then, is a matter of allowing natural penchants to develop fully”
Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Your children will develop. The question is: what kind of development will they have? Two main possibilities present themselves:
a) Will their development involve a process which will lead them to a life of excessive and unnecessary suffering? A life with no passion, frustrating and filled with unbalances which present themselves in the form of acute anxiety, insecurity, guilt, remorse, and sadness? For as hard as it feels to face a reality as dark as this one, it doesn’t make it any less of a real possibility. In fact, this is how most people go through their lives.
b) Your children’s development will lead them to a truly fulfilling life. No unnecessary suffering or scars. Authentic and comfortable in themselves, your children impress into the world their unique potential. The process is natural and totally integrated into their daily lives. They find themselves with a deep feeling of fulfillment in relation to the life they lead.
Parents have the power to influence the development of their children in a decisive manner. Sometimes they exert such influence consciously, but for the most part they do it unconsciously. Our Philosophical Counseling sessions were designed with the aim of support you in moving consciously in the direction of providing your children with the opportunity to lead the best life they are able to.
You may be wondering, “can I trust that this work is truly capable of generating concrete results”?
Human beings are instinctively wired to pursue their self-realization, i.e., to bring forth their immense potential, and to lead a life which will bring them genuine fulfillment. At the same time each person is unique, which makes it the case that each person’s potential and the kind of life which would bring them genuine fulfillment are also unique. The most adequate and healthier kind of development for each person is the one that respects and cultivates their particular nature.
The (erroneous) belief that an individual’s socialization process requires that they conform to socially accepted standards is entrenched in contemporary society. This makes it inevitable that your children’s development and education will involve incessant pressures towards molding them in terms of their behaviors, attitudes, beliefs and worldview. Just like in our case, they are conditioned on a daily basis by the “one size fits all” social dictatorship.
The problem is that this conditioning causes them to suppress their authentic nature and potential in favor of fitting into what is expected of them. This process, which happens to all of us, has two disastrous consequences:
a) An immense potential (which we all have) remains repressed. The inner light that craves for living a fulfilling life gradually extinguishes itself.
b) We all have by nature an impulse that relentlessly seeks self-realization. An unstoppable inner force in your children craves for the fulfillment of their potential, and yet they are being constantly conditioned to repress such force. The result is a great inner pressure, which translates itself into anxiety, anguish and frustration (and in the more extreme cases, depression and occasional panic attacks).
This understanding goes hand-in-hand with psychoanalyst Karen Horney’s view of the neurotic process:
“The neurotic process is a special form of human development. It is not only different in quality from healthy human growth but, to a greater extent than we have realized, antithetical to it in many ways. Under favorable conditions man’s energies are put into the realization of his own potentialities. Under inner stress, however, a person may become alienated from his real self”.
This is the problem that our Philosophical Counseling sessions will aim solve. We will work towards preventing that new inner dysfunctions of this kind are generated or internalized, and making sure that the existent ones are properly addressed. Also – and mainly – we will focus on equipping you for allowing your children the opportunity of a fulfilling life. One in which all the inner richness of who they are, and their potential, are properly and healthily expressed. Your children certainly possess potentialities which are considerably more extraordinary than you or they currently acknowledge.
The Philosophical Counseling Sessions for the Development of your Children are based on the the particular and concrete situation which you are living, and the particular needs of your children in relation to it.

“Men are born ignorant, not stupid. They are made stupid by education”
Bertrand Russell
How can you, in practice, provide your children with the best possible life? This is the key issue addressed by this initiative.
“Philosophy for the Development of your Children” aggregate both the benefits of group work (the sharing of experiences and insights; of insecurities and challenges connected with the responsibility of educating children; mutual support) and of a personalized approach (acknowledging and valuing the particularities of each person; the concrete application in the practical life of each participant). The initiative begins and finishes with an individual (or couple) Philosophical Counseling session, which are complemented by 8 group meetings.
In each group meeting I present the foundations of a healthy development process. Beyond that the initiative aims at equipping you to properly support your children to: a) fulfilling, to the maximum of their possibilities, the potential that is already in them; and b) to build a life with which they feel truly fulfilled and satisfied. Starting from the real-life experiences shared by participants those foundations are clarified and absorbed in the particular context of each participant. The most potent and relevant philosophical insights are presented throughout each meeting, in connection with your concrete life. Each meeting’s topic has been carefully selected as a way of securing the transformative power of the initiative.
The work is complemented by an Action-Plan towards Development (APD): an action-plan that is designed to accommodate the particularities of your specific context and of your children’s particular nature. It presents clearly and in an easy-to-apply fashion the key points in which you will need to focus in order for you to contribute as healthily as possible in your children’s life. The APD is composed of 3 parts:
a) A section focused on specific observations about you and the development process of your children.
b) A clear and detailed action-plan which will allow you to focus your efforts in the direction of the best possible development of your children (even after the group-work is over).
c) Recommendation of relevant readings, which will enrich the development process of your children.
The APD was designed with a clear objective: if properly implemented it will give you access to the capacity to transform the life of your children in a concrete, practical and consistent way.
Why will “Philosophy for the Development of your Children” allow you to provide your children with the best life they could have?
They will develop, in one way or another. The question is: what kind of development will they have? Two main possibilities present themselves:
a) Will their development involve a process which will lead them to a life of excessive and unnecessary suffering? How can you offer the best possible life to your children? This is the central question addressed by this service. “Philosophy for the Development of your Children” include the benefits of group work (exclusive group – limited places) which are potentialized by the benefits of a personalized approach.
The work starts and finishes with a Philosophical Counseling session (individual or couple) which are complemented by 8 group-meetings. Powerful philosophical insights are shared as a way of enriching the real-life experiences shared by participants.
This service will equip you to support your children in developing and expressing the potential which already is in them and in building for themselves a life which brings genuine fulfilment. Sessions are complemented by an Action-Plan which will provide you with concrete steps to follow in the direction of transforming your children’s life in a practical and consistent way.
Parents have the power to influence the development of their children in a decisive way. Will you become part of the problem or part of the solution?
This Philosophy Café focuses on developing a more realistic and healthier understanding of moments of suffering and crisis (which are an integral part of life). Based on insights from both western and eastern traditions of philosophy (enriched by insights from psychology and psychoanalysis) “The Value of Suffering and Crisis in your Life” will put into question the orthodox understanding and substitute it for an understanding which will be more beneficial for your practical life. At the end of this workshop you will have a deeper and clearer understanding of what needs to be done in order to transmute crisis into opportunities and suffering into fuel for the expression of the potential which is already in you.

This Philosophy Café focuses on developing an appropriate understanding of what is indispensable for opening the locks and liberating your life from the oppression caused by the pressure to “fit in”. Inspired by a consistent understanding of issues such as human nature, autonomy, authenticity, freedom, respect, virtue and human dignity, we will demystify the mistaken and unhelpful understanding according to which there is a unique way in which we all ought to be, act, think, and see the world. Together we will rely on Philosophy in order to put into the test the consistency and legitimacy of the dictatorship of the socially accepted.
At the end of this workshop you will have a clear and consistent understanding in terms of what is required for cultivating a life in which you become increasingly authentic and free.
This Philosophy Café aims at unmasking the largest source of suffering in our lives. We have all been conditioned to believe in the same phantasy: the most important thing in life is to “be happy”. It seems to make sense given that we do indeed have an eagerness to fulfill an “inner emptiness”, and happiness is presented as the way to fulfill it. In this Philosophy Café we will understand that: a) what we crave for is actually not happiness; b) the lack of clarity about what we mean by “happiness” places us in the position of the rabbit and a never-ending pursuit of a carrot which it will never reach. In the Café we will clarify: what are the most commonly views associated with happiness and why they are not, in fact, what we are looking for; why cultivating the illusion of the Myth of Happiness is the main cause of our suffering; and what could actually fulfill the sense of emptiness which we mistakenly try to solve with happiness.
By the end of this Philosophy Café you will have an understanding about what needs to be done in order to refrain from feeding your own suffering, and what to do in order to effectively fulfill the sense of emptiness.

“What we know is a drop, what we don’t know is an ocean”

Have you ever considered allowing the inner philosopher which is already in you to be developed and expressed? Learning to think deeply and carefully about the things that interest you the most in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere? The capacity to philosophize about the key aspects of our practical lives and the issues that influence those aspects the most is a capacity which, like any other, can be developed.
Philosophy with Friends was designed to develop that capacity in you, by practicing a philosophical approach towards the issues suggested by you (if necessary, I am ready to suggest a number of intriguing philosophical issues to be discussed during our sessions). You will exercise capacities such as: critical thinking; logic; properly identifying and questioning implicit presuppositions and related problems; identify and further elaborate an understanding about what the key point in each discussed issue is; clarity of thinking; independent thinking; integrating rationality and intuition in a consistent way.
Philosophy with Friends is based on an observation of your personal style, acknowledging and developing those potentialities which are natural and unique to you. The group (2-4 people) is composed of you and your friends, in such a way as to generate a safe and fun environment, providing the necessary conditions for a development process which is productive and efficient.

How can you Provide Your Children with the Best Life they Could Have?
Under Development
Death is not sad. The sad thing is most people don't live at all.
